2013 Pierre Fournier Award auditions
The next auditions for the Pierre Fournier Award will be in London in 2013. We welcome worldwide applications from cellists aged 28 and under.
Please contact the Administrator, Jane Nicolson with any queries.
2013 Application Guidelines
The applicant should be no older than 28 on 1 January 2013.
By way of application, please send:
– an updated CV, including contact details (telephone and email where possible),
– a CD recording of a recent performance, ideally reflecting a variety of musical styles and a suggested full recital programme (approx. 70 – 90 minutes) that the applicant will be prepared to play at the audition.
Please avoid including You Tube and other internet videos because of poor sound quality.
Cellists are asked to bring with them a collaborative pianist with whom they feel confident they could perform a successful recital programme in the Wigmore Hall, demonstrating a mature and developed partnership.
Repertoire is at the discretion of the applicant and should reflect their passions and strong musical convictions.
Successful applicants must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements, arriving on the day before their audition.
Applicants must be available and be prepared to stay in London from the day before their audition until approximately 6pm on the final day.
The auditions
Successful applicants will perform in front of a panel of distinguished judges.
Auditions will take place over three days: two days of first rounds, followed by the final on the third day, when the winner will be announced.
The panel will choose excerpts to be performed in the first round.
Those selected for the second round will perform a 45-minute programme, selected from their full suggested programme by the panel.
All applicants who have not been chosen to perform in the final are welcome to attend as an invited audience member.
The Pierre Fournier Award Prize
The recipient of the Pierre Fournier Award will receive a recital in London's Wigmore Hall, a professional CD recording of that recital, as well as other significant orchestral and chamber music performances with affiliated organisations such as the Philharmonia Orchestra and Oxford May Music.
